Copying From the Internet to Microsoft Word
Text (Words)
- Select the text you want to copy
- Copy the text
- Click on your Word document
- Paste
- POSSIBLE PITFALL:
If you paste and don’t see anything, it might be because the text
you copied was white.
- HOW TO OVERCOME:
- Select this text in your word document
- Change the color.
Pictures (Graphics)
- Put your mouse on the picture you want
to copy
- Right-click and choose “copy”
- Click on your Word document
- Paste
- POSSIBLE PITFALL:
If text instead of your picture is pasted, you may still have text
selected on your Internet page.
- HOW TO OVERCOME:
- Just click somewhere else on the
page, and then try again.
- POSSIBLE PITFALL:
Your picture will be treated like text. You will be able to move it within your
text, but will note be able to move it around the page.
- HOW TO OVERCOME:
- Click on the picture; Click on the
text wrapping icon in your picture toolbar. Choose any of the options.
- POSSIBLE PITFALL: Sometimes, the picture you want to
copy cannot be copied with our “normal” techniques. (Macromedia Flash graphics are one
example.)
- HOW TO OVERCOME:
- Do a Screen Copy: Move your mouse away from the place
you want to copy.
- Hold down your <alt> key and,
while continuing to hold it down, press your <print screen>
key. (It is usually in the upper
right of your keyboard, the third key from the right.)
- Click on your Word document
- Paste

- Click at the beginning of the text
you want to copy, hold down your mouse button, and drag it through the
text you want to copy. Let go.
- Click at the beginning of the text
you want to copy, hold down your <shift> key and then click your
mouse at the end of the text you want to copy.

you want to copy, and choose “copy”
